Made in the USA, Ovasitol® provides inositols in a naturally balanced 40:1 ratio supplied as 4,000 mg of myo-inositol and 100 mg of D-chiro-inositol per day.  Inositol is synthesized from glucose in tissues throughout the body, being found in high concentration in the brain, where it may support neurotransmitter function.  Inositols function as insulin second messengers, helping to metabolize glucose and maintain normal blood sugar.  Legumes, grains, nuts, and fruits like oranges and cantaloupes are rich with inositols.

Clinical research suggests a beneficial role for inositol supplementation, particularly in metabolic conditions involving insulin resistance:

  • polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) – a common condition characterized by enlarged cystic ovaries, irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, acne, and hirsutism

  • metabolic syndrome – characterized by weight gain, truncal obesity, hypertension (high blood pressure), hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), and hyperglycemia (elevated blood sugar)

  • mood disorders – depression, anxiety, and panic disorder – (additional research required to confirm inositol’s possible role in combating mood disorders)

Obesity and metabolic syndrome appear to be increasing in the US.  An outspoken national public health advocate recently stated, "The more metformin they prescribe .. the more diabetes we have,” also stating, “regulatory agencies must stop hiding science from us when it clashes with the commercial ambitions of the pharmaceutical industry.”

Have we become overly dependent on pharmaceuticals?  Prescription medications most certainly have an appropriate place in the hierarchy of treatments for chronic disease.  Yet, instinctive remedies like dietary improvements, exercise, and even natural supplements are critically important, perhaps not only in treatment, but possibly in prevention of some chronic disease.  Those interested in avoiding potential drug side-effects and drug interactions may be particularly motivated to consider alternative remedies.

Perhaps the most studied benefit of inositol supplementation relates to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).  PCOS is an endocrine disorder and leading cause of female infertility, affecting up to 15 percent of women of childbearing age.  According to the World Health Organization (WHO), PCOS is the most common cause of ovulation failure.  Despite the well documented prevalence of PCOS, the condition is estimated to be under-diagnosed in up to 70 percent of patients.  Thus, many women affected by PCOS remain undiagnosed.

Women with family histories of diabetes are at increased risk of developing PCOS.  WHO acknowledges that women with PCOS are also more prone to develop other serious health conditions including diabetes, hyperlipidemia (elevated cholesterol), hypertension (high blood pressure), heart disease, and possibly even endometrial (uterine) carcinoma.

PCOS is associated with irregular menstrual periods, excess androgen hormone secretion, abnormal facial hair growth (hirsutism), acne, belly fat (truncal obesity), insulin resistance (pre-diabetes), and ovarian cysts.  In PCOS, irregular periods are commonly associated with absent ovulation and resulting infertility.  Diagnostic criteria suggest that doctors consider PCOS in patients with two or more of these signs and symptoms.

Typical recommendations for treatment of PCOS include dietary restrictions, weight loss, and medications, depending upon the fertility desires of individual patients.  Metformin is an anti-diabetic drug used to treat PCOS, particularly in obese patients with insulin resistance (pre-diabetes).  However, metformin commonly causes unpleasant gastrointestinal side effects, frequently leading to discontinuation of the drug.  Clearly, other safe and effective treatments are needed.

Fortunately, for many PCOS patients there may be an alternative.  Inositol supplementation has been shown to be effective, improving hormonal balance, metabolism, menstruation, and ovulation.  In a meta-analysis of 26 randomized controlled clinical research trials including over 1,600 patients, use of inositols resulted in greater normalization of menstrual cycles and normalization of blood sugar as compared to placebo.  By these measures, inositol supplementation was found to be equivalent to metformin in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and insulin resistance.  Researchers agree that "Inositol is an effective and safe treatment in PCOS showing non-inferiority (statistical equivalence) in most outcomes as compared to the gold standard (established) treatment -- (that being) metformin.”

Researchers suggest that two particular molecular variations (isomers) of inositol may be critical second messengers for insulin in the metabolic processes of the body.  These critical isomers are myo-inositol and d-chiro-inositol.  In healthy ovaries, these inositol isomers are found in a 40:1 ratio (40 parts myo-inositol to one part d-chiro-inositol).  As recommended by an International Obstetrics and Gynecology Consensus Conference, Ovasitol® contains both of these important inositol isomers in precisely this same healthy 40:1 ratio.

Always follow the recommendations of your healthcare professional and never discontinue prescribed medications without the advice and direct oversight of your physician.  Ask your internist, family doctor, endocrinologist, or gynecologist about Ovasitol® inositols.  You may be pleasantly surprised by your doctor's response.

What is inositol?

Inositol is a nutrient found in fruits, beans, grains, and nuts, and it’s also made naturally by the body. Research shows that myo-inositol and d-chiro-inositol support:

  • Healthy hormone levels*

  • Healthy insulin and blood sugar levels*

  • Regular menstrual cycles*

  • Healthy ovarian function*

  • Healthy lipid levels*

  • Healthy egg quality in women trying to conceive*

How is Ovasitol different than other inositol supplements?

  • Ovasitol is a 100% pure inositol powder supplement. It contains only myo-inositol and d-chiro-inositol in the body’s naturally occurring ratio of 40 to 1. Recent studies have shown that taking a combination of these two forms, in this ratio, is more beneficial than taking either myo-inositol or d-chiro-inositol alone.*

  • Ovasitol is the first and only 40:1 inositol supplement that’s independently tested and certified by NSF International®, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

  • Ovasitol is packaged in two ways to match your lifestyle – in a recyclable canister with a scoop or convenient, single-serving packets. It’s also unflavored, so it mixes seamlessly into any hot or cold non-carbonated beverage.

Who is likely to benefit from Ovasitol?

Women trying to support menstrual regularity, ovarian function, and healthy hormone, blood sugar, and lipid levels would likely benefit from Ovasitol.*  For some women trying to conceive, myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol may also promote healthy egg quality.*  Women trying to conceive should take Ovasitol along with a preconception prenatal supplement, such as  TheraNatal®Core  or TheraNatal®OvaVite.

Men and postmenopausal women can also take Ovasitol to help support healthy insulin and blood sugar levels.*

What’s the difference between Ovasitol and Ovasitol Plus?

Ovasitol is Theralogix' original 40:1 inositol supplement.  It provides 4,000 mg of myo-inositol and 100 mg of d-chiro-inositol per daily dose to support menstrual regularity, ovarian function, and healthy hormone, blood sugar, and lipid levels.* Recent studies have shown that taking a combination of these two forms, in this ratio, is more beneficial than taking either myo-inositol or d-chiro-inositol alone.*

Ovasitol Plus features the exact 40:1 inositol ratio in the original Ovasitol, plus additional nutrients for optimal absorption and enhanced benefits:

  • Alpha-lactalbumin: a whey protein that increases myo-inositol absorption and bioavailability.*

  • Chromium picolinate: an essential trace mineral that play a key role in supporting healthy blood sugar, insulin, and lipid levels.*

  • Vitamin D3: an important vitamin that promotes healthy glucose, insulin, and hormone levels.*

  • Ovasitol Plus is ideal for individuals looking for additional metabolic support, or those who haven’t achieved their desired results with inositols alone.*

How long should I take Ovasitol?

Ovasitol is designed for continuous, long-term use.  It generally takes at least three months of regular, daily use to notice menstrual benefits and at least 6 months of regular, daily use to notice skin and hair benefits.* If you’re taking Ovasitol to promote healthy egg quality, take consistently for at least six weeks.*  Be sure to follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations.

Can I continue to take Ovasitol during pregnancy?

Yes.  You can safely continue to take Ovasitol during pregnancy.  In fact, research shows that myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol can support healthy blood sugar levels during pregnancy.*

Can I continue to take Ovasitol while breastfeeding?

Many women continue to take Ovasitol during pregnancy and breastfeeding for its significant metabolic benefits.  There are no known safety concerns with taking inositol while breastfeeding.  Breast milk is a natural source of inositol, and inositol is added to many infant formulas.  Please check with your healthcare provider about whether to take Ovasitol while breastfeeding.

Are there any side effects from Ovasitol?

No.  There are no expected side effects from Ovasitol. Studies have shown that inositol is safe and well-tolerated when taken at the typical recommended dose of 4,000 mg a day.

Can I take Ovasitol with other nutritional supplements?

Yes.  You can take Ovasitol with most other dietary supplements.  However, if you’re considering Ovasitol and DHEA together, please check with your healthcare provider.  DHEA may raise testosterone levels and counteract the potential benefits of an inositol supplement in certain individuals.

Can I take Ovasitol with prescription medications?

Ovasitol can be safely taken along with most prescription medications, including birth control.  As with any dietary supplement, discuss with your pharmacist and/or healthcare team to determine whether Ovasitol can be taken along with your medications.

If you are considering Ovasitol and have a prescription to manage your blood sugar, please check with your healthcare provider.

If you take thyroid medication, separate from Ovasitol by at least one hour.
